Oh, how often do our plans change at the last minute? The unexpected shift in our weather here in Atlanta forced us to cancel our Gifted retreat at the last minute. Instead of coming together in one room to pray and learn more about the Holy Spirit, we have the opportunity to experience a Virtual Retreat. So...gather your bible, your journal, a pen, and a cup of something hot and settle in.
This past weekend was the Marist Holiday Traditions, an annual fundraiser for the Marist Parent's Club. This one day market was bursting at the seams with people who were so graciously making Christmas shopping easier for many of us. Often, these markets are a showplace for the creative spirit. It is easy to recognize the gifts that so many others have, but how often do I take the time to recognize the creativity that God has poured into my own life?
In thinking about the wide range of art, jewelry, pottery, lotions and soaps that were on sale, I realized that no two artists were the same. Each booth or table was unique and reflected the artist's personality, gifts and talents. The artist who created the blue and white vessel wrote, "Yes, you do need this" across the stripes. I love the versatility of this vessel. I immediately used it as a cup when I got home and was thirsty. this morning it was transformed into a vase to hold God's glory inside of it's walls.
Each of the artists at Holiday Traditions was expressing their creativity in a unique way and we are asked to do the same. But, often, we stop short of trying out our gifts and stifle the creativity that has been placed within our soul. We fail to see ourselves in the way that God sees us with a mixture of talents and strengths, with beauty and a fiery spirit. In our absence, a void exists that is unfillable by anyone else.
If you are seeking to recognize your gifts or are looking to take some time away from the busyness that is inevitable with Christmas preparations, join me on December 9 for Gifted- A Women's Advent Retreat. There is a button to the right where you can register and find out more details. This retreat will be a time for you to learn more about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the need that each of us has to recognize them within ourselves so that we can share them with others.
